One-day artburst at 7 Stages!
You're invited to Human Sunrise Festival in our lobby and outdoors!
This complimentary one-day festival features an eclectic range of artistic responses to Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise, including READY OR NOT, Jessica Lily & my collaborative art project.
The festival encourages audiences and Little 5 Points visitors to honor the Muscogee and Creek people and their land. As we shed light on colonialism and complacency, we celebrate ancestors and commit to future generations through art-making and story-sharing.
READY OR NOT imagines our human journeys, through the image of packing a magic suitcase. At first whimsical, like Mary Poppins’ carpet bag, the song also moves us to the journeys taken as forced migration, the refugee’s journey, packing quickly the things most precious, tangible and intangible, objects as well as memories.
There will be a dedicated ART SPACE, with a suitcase containing art supplies to illustrate those things most precious to you.
Join us (in person or virtually) to take part!

This version of "Open the Window" is a collaboration with the fabulous Lea Morris, one of my favorite musicians I connected with during the pandemic. Here is the song with some history and accompanied by Sign Language.

This is a Spontaneous Improvisation with the audience at Steve's Live Music in Atlanta. It is a song of gratitude to live music, to all the musicians who make playing so much fun, and to folks who come to listen and are also willing to become part of the music.
