Dear Friends near and far,

It has been a summer filled with wonderful musical collaborations and more to come, as you can see below!

Of special note, on Sat. Sept. 28 we are celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Global Village Project, where I have been using Singing and Songwriting to help our wonderful teenage refugee girls get on the fast track to learning English. The concert also marks the release of IMAGINE A CIRCLE: THE GLOBAL VILLAGE SONGBOOK, which contains 55 songs written by, with and for our GVP students over the last 15 years. The book includes song lyrics, music notation, stories about the songs, teaching tips, and striking student art work.

I truly hope you can join us for this momentous occasion and/or purchase a Songbook for yourself or someone you know who works with English Language Learners.

May our paths cross somewhere sometime somehow soon. Scroll on down....

Peace with harmony, Elise

"Singing the Inspiration of Ossabaw was a complete reset for mind, body and soul. The island, the music, the group, the food, the expertise of our on-island guide, and the skill of Gayanne and Elise to bring us together all combined to make a beautiful and unforgettable weekend."

Our Global Village Project Form 1, all Newcomer students, performed at Briarlake School for International Day. This is our version of Tommy Goldsmith's wonderful song about sharing food "Big Pot in the Little One."

One of our favorite ways to illustrate our songs is with a Cranky, an art film on paper. We wrote this song about Malala Yousafzai, during our study of Women's Wisdom. This was a community project, both in composing the song and illustrating the Cranky.

Sometimes a concept that is hard for students to grasp becomes easy when we write a song about it. We have written songs about Punctuation, the Oceans, the Secrets of Math, and the 5 Freedoms in the UN Rights of the Child. This one is about LONG & SHORT VOWELS.
