SUMMARY:Atlanta\, GASinging for Fun for Everyone5 Week Series
DESCRIPTION:Sep 10th – Oct 8th\, 2018\nMonday Nights @ 7:30 – 8:45 pm\n5-Week Series on Monday Evenings\nDiscover\, explore\, and expand your natural voice\nSinging for Fun is both a forum for individuals to learn more about their own voice\, and a way to build community through group singing. \nThe workshop includes body and voice integration\, calling in elements of Tai Chi\, Yoga\, and Alexander Technique\, as well as dance\, theater\, and vocal improvisation to focus on breath and ease of movement. \nSingers learn songs that explore the vast expression of harmony from around the world. There are also lots of songs in English\, including songs from the African American tradition\, quirky rounds\, food songs\, Elise originals\, and lots more! \nAll of the songs are broken down into easily learnable parts and become thrilling to sing in a group. Even people who think they “can’t carry a tune in a bucket” in no time find themselves part of an impromptu glorious chorus. \nSingers of all levels of experience are welcome.\nMusic reading is not a prerequisite.\nEarly Registration Discount: $75 paid by Sept. 4\n$90 after Sept. 4\nSend check to: EMWorld Records\, PO Box 148\, Pine Lake GA 30072\n Registration Coming Soon…

SUMMARY:New YorkCircle Singing: A Spontaneous Vocal Experience
DESCRIPTION:Sun. May 20\n2:30 – 4:30 p.m.\nSt. Mark’s Church in the Bowery\n131 E 10th St\, New York\, New York 10003 \nUnleash the power of the human voice at this open musical event that combines singing\, improvisation and connection through the practice of circle singing. Participants will gather in a circle to gently warm up body and breath. Through a series of musical games\, we will begin to join our voices together in mutual support and harmony. \nDrawing on traditions of spontaneous composition developed by Bobby McFerrin & Rhiannon\, and methods for body rhythm and shared leadership from Música do Círculo in Brazil\, we will explore music that can only be found in the air between us. As our connection grows stronger\, we will strive to call down the spirit of music itself to guide us\, in an inclusive echo of Pentecost & Shavuot. \nThis event welcomes all ages\, all levels of skill and experience. Our circle is open to everyone who has ever felt the urge to sing. \nAbout The Hosts: \nSounding NYC brings the joy of spontaneous singing to public spaces in New York City. Under the resonant archways of the city’s parks\, we offer a continuous musical experience that includes vocal improvisation as well as movement & rhythm. Open to all\, from professionals to passersby\, Sounding invites New Yorkers to rediscover the city’s spirit of play. \nCo-founder Jascha Hoffman is a singer-songwriter whose work has been featured on NPR. He will soon release his fourth album\, The Weather. Co-founder Onome is a vocalist and interdisciplinary sound artist who recently received her MFA in Performance Studies from Pratt Institute\, and is working on her debut sound meditation album\, Voke. Both are members of Moving Star\, a vocal improvisation ensemble at Carnegie Hall. \nLaura Newman is a singer\, composer and producer with a soulful voice and improvisational flare. She opened for Neil Young 6 times with The Church of Stop Shopping Choir. Her musical renditions of the 1st Amendment and the Declaration of Occupy Wall Street have become theme songs for protest movements and anthems for peace. Laura is the founder of high spirited rock band\, Abracadabra Field Trip\, and is also film director. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/SoundingNYC/\nhttp://onome.org/\nhttp://www.jaschamusic.com/\nhttp://irreverentfilms.com/ \n\n

Bringing three uniquely different voices to the blend\, their harmonies spread a web of joy and the delight of singing together. The threesome’s concerts are also famous for getting the audience singing\, and even self-professed “non-singers” find themselves part of a glorious choir. \n  \n\n\n@ Lama Foundation\, Taos NM \n“This may be the most unusual and musically exciting concert we have presented in our 11 years of 178 concerts!”  ~ Jack Sartain\, Producer\, Music for Missions Concert Series\, Tucker GA \n“You were simply awesome and\, as one customer put it\, it was pure magic and the best show she’s ever seen!”  ~ Merle Dollar\, Proprietor\, Local Color\, Springville AL \n“Their voices are each unique in color and timbre\, yet when combined\, create a beautiful unified sound that melts the audience and carries them home.  ~ Donald Milton\, Director of Music\, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of  Atlanta\, Atlanta GA \n“’Supergroups’ don’t always gel together onstage\, but this one sure does.
