Born in Dar Es Salaam, grew up in Moshi Tanzania
\nEvery morning we saluted Mount Kilimanjaro
\nNo Asians in Africa, said Idi Amin
\nSo I was flying for the first time at age 16
\nFor High School I had to move to Pakistan
\nGoodbye to my family, to do what I can<\/p>\n

When I was 6 years old, my grandma almost died
\nWe lived far from the city, and so we tried
\nTo reach the hospital, it was so far away
\nWe made it just in time to save the day<\/p>\n

I chose to be a doctor from that day on
\nThanks to the Queen, I went to Med School in Iran
\nBut then Iran had a revolution
\nSo I fled to America for my education \u2018Cause you know that –<\/p>\n

I speak 6 languages, my first was Kutchi
\nIn Tanzania, everybody speaks Swahili
\nEnglish was the language we learned in school
\nIn Pakistan you had to speak Urdu to be cool
\nIn Iran in just 6 months, I learned Farsi
\nFrom my husband\u2019s family, I learned Gujarati<\/p>\n

BRIDGE Would you like to try a Tanzanian food?
\nMatoke, made with plantains, it\u2019s a stew
\nYou peel them, and boil them like you do potatoes
\nWith garlic, onions, salt, pepper, and tomatoes<\/p>\n

My dad\u2019s dream was to be a doctor
\nHe never realized his dream
\nBut now my sister is a nurse and my brother and I are doctors
\nWe made our dad so proud<\/p>\n

When I saw so many people come to Clarkston from war
\nI helped start a Free Clinic, where all workers volunteer
\nWhen you\u2019re sick, you want a doctor to know what\u2019s happening
\nI understand sickness in 6 languages! Well you know that –<\/p>\n

I\u2019m so grateful I came to this country

I help the old, the sick, people in pain

\nI\u2019m having such a good time taking care of patients
\nI\u2019m just loving it, I\u2019m so fortunate
