I used to be a girl just like you.
\nI was born in Congo.
\nMy dad is from the eastern part.
\nMy mom is from Rwanda.<\/p>\n

At home we speak English and French,
\nAnd so our children won\u2019t forget
\nWe also speak my husband\u2019s language,
\nKinyarwanda<\/p>\n

When I call my mom, we speak Swahili
\nWith my best friend, we speak Lingala
\nWith my brother, we speak French (Nous parlons fran\u00e7ais)
\nI use all of my languages every day.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not easy understanding American culture.
\nWords get used in different ways.
\nPeople need to communicate
\nAnd sometimes they need help<\/p>\n

A translator is like a bridge
\nBetween newcomers and American culture.
\nI help both sides understand each other.
\nHuman beings, we all need help.<\/p>\n

I am the mother of 2 beautiful girls
\nThe little one is good in French,
\nThe older one, she loves her father\u2019s language
\nKinyarwanda<\/p>\n

When my kids don\u2019t need me anymore,
\nI want to go to school and study again.
\nI want to be a Community Organizer
\nFor families and kids with Special Needs<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to be successful:
\nFirst you have to think about where you want to go
\nThen you have to plan how to get there
\nThen you have to walk and work toward your goal
\nTake it one step at a time<\/p>\n

There will be bumps and problems on the way
\nAnd your goal won\u2019t come and find you
\nYou have to work hard to get to your goal
\nBut don\u2019t let anything stop you !<\/p>\n
